Letter in Italian Signed by Rabbi Raphael Yeshaya Azulai, the son of Rabbeinu the Chida. Livorno, 1806.


"Blessings and many successes and constant happiness". Letter of blessing to the leaders of the Ankona community "The esteemed and important leaders of the holy community ... these are the words of he who is loyal to the alliance of their love forever the young Raphael Yeshaya Azulai S.T." 


[1] leaf folded in half, 25 cm. On the back of the letter, the sender's address and that of the addressees and traces of a wax stamp. Italian with several Hebrew words. On the margins of the letter, two lines handwritten and signed by Rabbi Raphael Yeshaya Azulai. 


The Gaon Rabbi Raphael Yeshaya Azulai (1748-1826), the eldest son and disciple of Rabbeinu the Chida. Was born in Jerusalem and was renowned as one of its sages. Was greatly appreciated and loved by his father, who referred to him in his writings. In 1780, he was sent abroad as a Shadar of the Tiberius community when his mission ended, settled in Amsterdam. Since 1788 until his passing, he served as the Rav of the Ankona community in Italy, from where he continuously corresponded with his father who was living in Livorno. Part of his Sefer the "Imrei Noam" Shut was printed in his son's Sefer, "Zichron Moshe".

The letter was written approx. a month after the passing of his father, the Chida. 


Fold marks, aging stains, very good condition.
