Handsome silver besamim piece plated in gold. Nuremberg, 17th century.
Cutting and delicate molding work with figures from the Tanach, Moses with the tablets, Aaron in the Kohen’s clothing, and David playing the lyre. At the bottom is the figure of a knight with a shield and above him is engraved ‘netilat yadayim.’ Plants and grapevines. Made by hand by the artist Herman Lang, who was active between 1673-1716, stamped H.L. Stamp of the place of creation, N (Nuremberg). In the Jewish Museum in New York there is a famous Kiddush cup by this artist. The holes for sniffing seem not to be original. Weight: 238g. Generally excellent condition. Extremely rare!
