Erki Alay - Prague, 1815 - Single Edition - Extremely Rare
Erki Alai – a work on tractates Archin and Chulin, by Rabbi Leizer Karpeles of Prague. Prague, 1815. Single edition.
An extremely rare book! Not found in the National Library or in other libraries in Israel. In the Hebrew Bibliography this book was listed according to a copy found in the British Library. Never appeared for auction. Due to its importance the book was published in several facsimile editions in recent years.
In a "Moda'ah Rabba" on the back of the title page, which usually talks about the censorship and the gentiles, the author added an unusual addition: "This book is not connected to the wisdom of the Kabbalah at all, because all of the words of our Sages in the Talmud are connected only to the fulfillment of the commandments and the Written Torah with fences and boundries to do the commandment correctly and there is no need to say more and this comment is sufficient". It seems that this clarification was necessary because the authorities of the time forbade the printing of books of Kabbalah and Chassidut, as a result of the slander of the members of the Enlightenment.
It should be noted that in the author's introduction are numerical values and commentaries of a Kabbalistic nature.
Rabbi Eliezer Karpeles (1744-1832), Rabbi of the city of Lieben adjacent to Prague, a disciple of the author of the "Noda B'Yehuda" who wrote in his responsa to Rabbi Karpeles "My beloved the great and incredible Rabbi…the champion of Torah and of deeds the wonderful and astounding Rabbi". Corresponded with the "Chatam Sofer".
29, (1) leaves. 34 cm.
