Handwritten Documents, Postmarked and Stamped, from the Egyptian Occupation of the South of Israel during the War of Independence - Isdod and Beit Daras - Extremely Rare!
The day after the Declaration of Independence, the Egyptian army invaded the country. The Egyptian army moved along the coastal strip, conquered Gazza and continued to Isdod, the Arabic village near ancient Ashdod. The Egyptian army remained there for half a year, until the Negev and Isdod were freed by the IDF. During these six months, the residents of the village lived under the Egyptian rule. Very few documents survived from this short period of time.

Before us are two letters written in Arabic by residents of Isdod with requests from the Egyptian army regarding the grape harvest in the vineyards of the area. The letters are handwritten and signed by hand and fingerprint.
The letters are stamped with Egyptian postage stamps of King Farouk with a printing of the word "Palestine" on them. These stamps were issued especially for areas occupied by the Egyptian army during that short period of time.
A similar letter was sent from the village of Beit Daras, which was also occupied by the Egyptian army at the time.
This letter is stamped with a purple stamp in Hebrew and English of the village "Beit Daras Gazza" – an extremely rare stamp!
Extremely rare and important items in the history of the War of Independence in the Negev!
Condition: Very Good.
