At the beginning of the manuscript, an inscription: "a book on the history of man to teach the people of Israel in Hebrew and Arabic by me the youth Shalom Eliyahu Yishai citizen of Moknine…"
The Yishai family was one of the richest families in Moknine, Tunisia. Rabbi Shalom Yishai was one of the leaders of the community and one of its teachers.
The city of Moknine, one of the suburbs of Tunisia, had only a few Jewish families.
Little is known about this community.
The composition before us was meant to teach boys Torah by using both Hebrew and Arabic.
