Three Books with Comments and Torah Novellae in the Handwriting of Rabbi Eliyahu Tayeb of Tunis, and Additional Glosses – A Comment in the Handwriting of Rabbi Chaim Modai
a. Responsa of Rabbi Yitzchak bar Sheshet (HaRivash). Riva Di Trento, 1559.
Throughout the book are many dozens of novaelle and comments in the handwriting of Rabbi Eliyahu ben Rabbi David Teib. A number of ancient glosses in different writing (it is possible that these comments are also from the famous Teib family). The last leaf of the endpapers is written entirely with handwritten novalle on both sides of the page, Tunisian writing from the 18th century. The writer is unidentified.
The incomplete copy, missing the title page and the first and last leaves. Without a cover, detached leaves.
b. Teshuvat HaGeonim "Sha'arei Tzedek". Salonika, 1792. Published from a manuscript under the editing of Rabbi Chaim Modai.
Throughout the book are dozens of long glosses in the handwriting of Rabbi Eliyahu ben Rabbi David Teib.
On page 115, from the pages of the letters chart, an inscription in the handwriting of Rabbi Chaim Modai: "Up to here I, Chaim, edited and from here onwards I did not touch it as it was time to harvest, and they are the glosses of the editor of the printing press, I myself had many many more in my bag and they are written in the pages of my book".
Condition: Fair-Poor. Incomplete and damaged copy.
c. Tur Orach Chaim with Beit Yosef (incomplete copy, most likely of the editions from the 16th century).
A number of glosses in the handwriting of Rabbi Eliyahu Teib.
Rabbi Eliyahu ben Rabbi David Teib (also signs ELT"I S"T – Eliyahu Teib) lived in the 15th century, a member of the important dynasty of the Rabbis of the Teib family. He was one of the great Rabbis of Tunis in the period of Rabbi Yisrael Zitun and Rabbi Moshe Shitrug. The year of his death is unknown (in 1532-1535 he was no longer alive). Known amongst the scholars of Tunis and mentioned in the books of the sages of his generation. Before us are his Torah novaelle which were never published. The paragraphs of novaelle together make up the size of an entire book.
