BLOCH, RABBI YOSEF YEHUDA LEIB / TELZ

Signed letter, dated 1927, written to the Jewish Center in New York thanking them for their generous donation of $150. Typed in English on personal letterhead and signed in English “Y. L. Bloch”. ™ R. Yosef Leib Bloch (1859-1930) was known from a young age as both a tremendous masmid as well as an outstanding Illui. In his youth he studied under R. Eliezer Gordon, eventually becoming his son in law, and following R. Gordon’s sudden passing in 1910 he was appointed as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of Telz. Under his capable leadership the Yeshiva grew tremendously. His Mussar discourses were published posthumously under the title Shiurei Da’as and are considered classics of Torah thought. Fair condition. Some folds and small tears to edge of paper. 23 by 29 cm.
