Personal copy of R. Yaakov Yitzchak Ruderman, Rosh
Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel Baltimore.
R. Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman (1901-1987) was
a tremendous Talmid Chochom and founding Rosh
Yeshiva of Yeshiva Ner Yisroel in Baltimore. He
studied in Slabodka, under the “Alter”, R. Nosson
Tzvi Finkel and R. Moshe Mordechai Epstein,
receiving Semicha from the latter in 1926. In 1930,
he joined his father-in-law, R. Sheftel Kramer, at
the latter’s yeshiva in New Haven, Connecticut.
In 1933, he moved to Baltimore, where he was
offered a rabbinical post which he accepted on the
condition that he be permitted to open a yeshiva
using the synagogue facilities. He led the yeshiva for
54 years until his passing and under his leadership
it grew into one of the largest yeshivas in America,
producing thousands of distinguished alumni.

greatest Roshei Yeshiva of the previous
generation.
