Basic Book Pedigreed Copy! Shut Rabbi Bezalel Ashkenazi - First Edition Venice, 1596

Shut Rabbi Bezalel Ashkenazi who was famed for his work Shitah Mekubetzet on the Shas. Passed away shortly before this book was published.

First Edition Venice, 1596. Originally, 114 leaves. In this copy, the last page is missing, not of the work but of the indices. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod 282. In the Rare Book Collection of the National Library.

New binding. Stains. Moth damage, mainly in the last third, affecting the edge of the text - restored and with handwritten completion of the text. Fair overall condition.

Ancient ownership signatures!

On the title page, varied signatures "שייך להרב הגאון עוזיאל במ..". And Sephardic signatures: "יצחק בכמוהר"ר יום טוב ן' פארג'". "לי למקנה הצעיר משה בכמה"ר אברהם ברודו" - apparently, Rabbi Moshe Brodo, the son of Rabbi Avraham Brodo, author of the Birkat Avraham.

Additional sequential ownership notation, unclear. On leaf 7, using the Hebrew pagination, written in ancient script: "זעליגמאן...". On leaf 80, similarly using the pagination: "הק' אורי פייביש כהן".

Several stamps of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin, the son of the Natziv of Volozhin.

Comments!

Inside the book, several Sephardic and Ashkenazic handwritten comments. One of them (Sephardic), lengthy and significant:  "במחילה לא דק הרב דעד כאן לא קאמ'...".
