Historical and Rare! First Publication of the Official handwritten Response of the Gaon Av Beit Din Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld to the Lord Northcliffe Affair that Stirred Up the Emotions of the Jewish Yishuv in the 1920s

Background: The meeting with Lord Northcliffe stirred up the emotions of the Jewish Yishuv in the 1920s. In 1922, Lord Northcliffe, a British newspaper pioneer who had big influence on what was happening in Britain, visited Eretz Yisrael. Dr. de Haan considered the visit a golden opportunity to bolster the status of the Chereidi community in Eretz Yisrael and liberate it from the hold of the Zionist institutions. Dr. de Haan arranged a meeting between the Lord and the representatives of the Gaon Av Beit Din, who managed to convince the Lord of the necessity of the community's independence.
Immediately after the meeting, there was a wave of incitement throughout the country against the Chareidi community. Rioters came to Meah She'arim, beat up old men and threatened the members of the Beit Din. Rabbi Sonnenfled then wrote a letter to the non-religious newspaper Doar Hayom, this original letter, stating his doctrine about the settlement of Eretz Yisrael and the relationship with its non-religious community.

The letter was written by the scribe of the community and at its end, Rabbeinu added five lines handwritten by him and his signature: "ונחזור בקצירת האומר, תעודת ישראל קיום התוה"ק והמצוות...

Important, historical document about the relationship between the Chareidi and non-religious communities of Eretz Yisrael and the struggle for independence of the Chareidi community. The content of the letter was published but not this original document.
