$50 Banknote Received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – For Obtaining the Book Nachalat Ami for the Rebbe

The banknote was given to Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch, who wrote on the margins (in pen): “"מאת כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א בעד ספר נחלת עמי שביקש הרב חדקוב להשיג בעד הרבי".

Sefer Nachalat Ami (second section, novellae and commentary on the Rambam on Hilchot Psulei Hamukdashin), by Rabbi Emmanuel Yitzchak Grossberg, was published in a limited edition, in Bnei Brak, 1978. At the beginning of the 1980s it was still impossible to get a copy in the USA, and the Rebbe asked Rabbi Deutsch, who used to search for books missing for the Rebbe’s library, to get a copy for him. After he located a copy and gave it to the Rebbe, the Rebbe gave him this banknote. 

Enclosed is a signed certificate by Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch describing the events at length. A copy of Nachalat Ami is indeed located at the Rebbe’s library (Card #12466). Good condition, slight wear.
