Gloss Handwritten by the Gaon the Rogatchover, On His Book Tzofnat pane'ach - Piotrkow, 1905 Copy of th eGaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin
First edition of Sefer Tzofnat Pane'ach, sections V-IV, on the four sections of the Rambam, by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin of Dvinsk - Piotrkow, 1905. Taping to the title page. Good leaves in fine condition, rare for such a book. Good condition.
On leaf 10, a gloss handwritten by the author, the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, the Rogatchover.
The great Gaon Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, the Rogatchover (1858-1936) the Rav of the Chassidic community of Dvinsk and author of the Tzofnat pane'ach Shut and novellae. A famed Gaon, who addressed anyone who asked him a quastion. His deep responses, which included many references, challenged the community of learners who studied his words. In two letters that Maran the Chazon Ish sent to the Rogatchover, the Chazon Ish titles him "Raban shel Yisrael".
The copy of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin Av Beit Din of Moscow, which was apparently given to him by the author himself (in all copies, a sticker was mounted above the name of Rabbeinu, Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, bearing the inscription "authored by the Gaon Rav" (see picture in previous lot). In this copy, the word "הגאון" was handwritten several year later. Apparently, this copy was not sold but given by the author himself to Rabbi Chaim Berlin).
