Rare polemic works: Kinat Sofrim, Chok L’Yisrael: first edition, Livorno 1740. Original parchment binding
Two books printed and bound together, works by Rabbi Chananya ben Menachem Kazis. First edition, Ricci and Meldola printing, Livorno 1740. Catalogued as rare by the National Library.
1. Kinat Sofrim, in which the author defends the Sefer HaMitzvot of the Rambam, “and as a hammer crushes the stone [so too] will this overcome the controversies”. [4], 39, [1] leaves. At the end are detailed indices.
2. Pamphlet “Chok L’Yisrael”, on the laws of issur and heter, in which he refutes the Pri Chadash (Rabbi Chizkiya Siloa). 23 leaves. At the beginning are approbations on both works by Rabbis of Livorno and Florence, and a long introduction by the author. Engravings of the printer’s symbols and more.
Original parchment binding, a few worming holes and damage, moisture stains. High-quality paper, overall good condition. Note: “Yehuda ibn Yisrael.”
