Manuscript bu Rabbi Moshe Avigdor Chaikin Dayan and Moreh Tzeddek of London, "Klalei Ha'Poskim" - the Early 20th Century
Large [!] manuscript containing Klalei Ha'Poskim and Klalei Ha'Shas, alphabetically ordered with many references of the Sages and responsa books. Handwritten by the author Rabbi Moshe Avigdor Chaikin.
The author printed his book: Klalei Ha'Poskim U'Mar'eh Makon Ha'Dinim Ba'Shukhcan Aruch" in London in 1923. The manuscript before us contains many passages that were not printed and vice versa, many printed passages do not appear in the manuscript before us. It is most likely that this manuscript preceded Rabbi Chaikin's book. Except for "Sefer Klalei Ha'Poskim", Rabbi Chaikin authored the book "Tziyun Rashi" which compares the words of the Sages as they appear in Rashi and their source in the Talmud. The book "Klalei Ha'Poskim" was republished by Rabbi Zvi Moskowitz in Jerusalem, 1960.
Rabbi Moshe Avigdor Chaikin of London (1848-1928) received his Semicha (rabbinical ordination) from Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan of Kovno (Kaunas), Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Diskin, and Rabbi Yekutiel Zaman Landua of Petersburg. He became the rabbi of Paris in 1884. In 1888 he moved to Rostov to serve there as a rabbi. In 1892 he moved to Sheffield and in 1902 became a Dayan and Moreh Tzeddek in London. In 1926 he immigrated to Tel Aviv. Authored English books approbated by Rabbi Naftali Adler.
It is possible that the manuscript is missing several leaves at its beginning or that it is a continuation of an additional manuscript.
[309] densely written pages. 13 cm.
