Siddur with Spanish Translation. Amsterdam, 1772
Beautiful copy!

Order of prayers in Sephardic rite with Spanish translation on the facing side of each page.

The siddur opens with two title pages, the first title page beautifully decorated with a copperplate engraving depicting Akeidas Yitzchak, autographed by the artist A. Santcroos. The siddur includes prayers for weekdays, Shabbos, Rosh Chodesh, Chanukah, Purim and Selichos for the month of Elul.

The first page features a dedication in Spanish by the printer Isaac Suissa Burrito to Moshe ben Aharon de Pinto as well as a list of subscribers. This list represents a historic documentation of the members of the Spanish congregation in Amsterdam, rarely found in other sefarim from this era.

The siddur was edited by Rabbi Yitzchak Hakohein Belinfanti with the approbation of Rabbi Shlomo Shalem, Rabbi of the Sephardic congregation in Amsterdam. Rabbi Shlomo Shalem writes that the siddur was printed alongside a Spanish translation since “many among us did not know or understand all that emerged from their mouths, and how shall they serve Hashem without knowing the meaning of the words of their prayers to Hashem?
