Handwritten chiddushim 12-Side Manuscript on maseches Gittin by Rabbi Moshe Schick, Av Beis Din of Chust and author of Maharam Schick.

This Kuntress opens with a handwritten inscription by Maharam Schick: “B’ezras Hashem Yisborach… Sugya of ‘Amasla b'Gittin’... Rosh Chodesh Elul, 5598.”

Maharam Schick was of the prime disciples of the Chasam Sofer and totally Immersed himself in the Torah of his Rebbi, it is said that he never discoursed in Torah without mentioning the teachings of his spiritual master. In this remarkable kuntress of chiddushei Torah, as well, he repeatedly mentions the Chasam Sofer’s divrei Torah, once within the body of his chiddush (leaf 6b): “Based on what I saw in the kuntress of our master and teacher…” and in three glosses added to this manuscript where he mentions chidushim in the name of the Chasam Sofer. One example appears on leaf 3a: “ I saw in the kuntress from our master and teacher…that with this premise, my words mirrored his opinion, and I rejoiced upon this.” Similar remarks appear on leaves 4a and 5a.

Rabbi Moshe Schick (1807-1879), renowned as Maharam Schick, was a leading disciple of the Chasam Sofer who perpetuated his legacy of spiritual leadership in Hungary. His many illustrious disciples numbered among the most prominent Torah luminaries in Europe, and his contemporary Rabbanim unanimously accepted his halachic rulings.
In 1838, upon the recommendation of his master the Chasam Sofer, he was appointed Rav of Yargen, a town near Pressburg that was renowned for its pristine air. When the Chasam Sofer vacationed in Yargen, he would visit his disciple’s beis medrash and listen to him teach Torah.
