Handwritten Letter by the Satmar Rebbetzin Alta Faiga Teitelbaum

Fascinating description of their endeavors after the Holocaust and journey to America.

This letter, handwritten by Rebbetzin Alta Faiga Teitelbaum, was mailed from America to Eretz Yisrael during the very first days following the Satmar Rav and Rebbetzin’s arrival on American soil.

“The agmas nefesh that my husband, the Rav and tzaddik shlit”a, [suffers] is indescribable. Yet everything is from Shamayim and with Divine providence.” In this letter, the Rebbetzin mentions the reception that was prepared for the Admor, the apartment where they were graciously hosted, along with the Rebbetzin’s aspiration and hope to return to Yerushalayim.

After the Holocaust, the Satmar Rav and Rebbetzin Harav Yoel Teitelbaum and Rebbetzin Alta Faiga Teitelbaum journeyed to Israel from Switzerland, but only a few months later, continued to America.

Rebbetzin Alta Faiga Teitelbaum married Harav Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar in 1936 and served as his loyal partner for 42 years of marriage. The Rebbetzin was the daughter of the Admor Harav Avigdor Shapiro from Chenstechov and the great-granddaughter of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. She cared devotedly for her husband and was famous for helping to establish schools for the girls of the Satmar community. Rebbetzin Alta Faiga Teitelbaum devoted her energies to charity and chessed organizations, living a long and fruitful life and passing away in the year 2001.
