The glass is decorated with spectacular sharp, symmetrical engravings.
Gabriel Joseph Heinrich Hermling (1833-1904) descended from a long line of goldsmiths from Cologne. He is recorded as a goldsmith in 1860 and took over his father's shop the following year.
Goldsmith work in Romanesque and Gothic style combined with enamel from 1880 to 1900. In 1880 he received the state medal at an art exhibition in Dusseldorf.
